We will explore Rimsky-Korsakov's re-telling of one of Russia's most popular tales, The Snow Maiden.

We are pleased to present Retelling the tale: Inside Opera Special where we will hear from Dr Martin Pickard, Assistant Conductor of The Snow Maiden and Assistant Director Emily Burns to explore the opera, author of The Invention of Angela Carter,  and lecturer of creative writing at King’s College London, Edmund Gordon to discuss Angela Carter’s relationship with fairy tales and her role in retelling them and finally Leeds-based psychoanalyst Susie Godsil who will be in conversation with Opera North’s Projects Director Dominic Gray about the psychoanalytic perspective on fairy-tales, in such areas as the relationship between parents and children and the perils of growing up.
